This is what you will do:
Work can vary based on the type of roof construction. As a roofer for flat roofs, for example, you will work on the installation, maintenance and repair of structures on small and/or large houses and/or buildings. With tiled roofs, you will mainly work for private individuals. You will also install, maintain and repair gutters, roof edges, dormers or skylights. For you as a roofer, every job is a new challenge. Every day is different!
- An apprentice roofer is a novice roofer who is training to learn the trade. The duties of an apprentice roofer can vary depending on the specific training and company he or she works for, but generally they include the following:
- Assisting experienced roofers: Apprentice roofers work under the supervision of experienced roofers. They help set up the job site, prepare materials and assist with various tasks.
- Materials preparation: This includes cutting roofing materials such as shingles, roof rolls or shingles to size, mixing mortar or adhesive, and making sure you have the right tools and materials for the project.
- Cleaning and tidying up: Apprentice roofers help clean the work area, clear away construction debris and ensure a safe and organized work environment.
- Inspections and Measurements: They can learn how to perform roof inspections to identify damage or problems. They can also learn how to take accurate measurements to place roofing materials correctly.
- Learning processes: Apprentice roofers will learn how to install different types of roofing systems, such as bituminous roofing, tile roofing, metal roofing or other materials. They will be instructed on proper techniques, tools and safety procedures.
- Safety: It is vital that student roofers follow safety regulations and learn how to work safely at heights. This may include wearing personal protective equipment, such as helmets and harnesses.
- Training and certification: Depending on the region, apprentice roofers may be required to participate in training programs and certification exams to prove their skills and knowledge.
